2D Walking
Moving forward from our hand animation from the prior week, in our 8th of Animation Production we had been given a brief to create a 2D Walking Cycle. The walking cycle needed to be looped and have some type of rhythm to it such as: angry, celebratory, clumsy or distracted. I wanted to create a dramatic walk because I thought it would look the most energetic and vibrant, therefore I chose to create an angry walk. Before going into animating, I looked to YouTube for reference for my walk cycle because I had never created a walk cycle before, the video below shows my reference video.
Similar to my 2D Hand, I put my reference video into Photoshop so I could use the frames as reference. I done this to make the rhythm of the walk look as angry as possible, the screenshot below shows an example of one of the frames I used as reference.

I briefly used squash and stretch for my 2D Hand, for this project however I decided to use secondary action for my walk. Secondary actions are intended to complement and intensify the main action, therefore in my animation the primary action would be the legs walking and the secondary actions would be the arms swinging past the hips and the head bobbing, adding more dimension to the walk and exaggerating the angry atmosphere.
After I had animated the walk cycle on Toon Boom, I transferred the video into Photoshop and added some 'footsteps' sound effects to make it more authentic. The video below shows my final product of my 2D Walk. Overall, I like how my walk cycle had turned out and I'm glad that I was able to animate a whole body. If I could go back and change anything I would clean up the line work to make the animation smoother.
