CW2 Practise Project (30 Pictures)
For this project we are required to provide 30 pieces of physical art pieces, these art pieces have to be abstract and have a range of different materials. Our drawings have to be related to our own personal practice. Outside of lesson time, I have been practicing the human form and movement, I was inspired to research into the human form and movement because of our life drawing lessons. These life drawing sessions have shown me how to use a range of materials on the same human form, and how different each piece can look despite having the same model, it made me interested in exploring more about the human form and how it can look in movement.
Artist Study- Michael M Hensley
Although I have some experience with drawing the human form, I still struggle a lot with some aspects of drawing it (e.g. proportions of the body). To help with this, I looked at Michael M Hensley's website to see his guides on human illustrations. The images below are his from his website.
Hensley is a modern-day artist who, like Michelangelo, is fascinated by the human anatomy. For all his pieces he uses pencil, giving the form some soft features. When drawing human figures, he uses dark shadows to emphasis curvature on the human body.
Using Hensley's work as my source of inspiration, I drew up similar anatomy illustrations to help guide me get a better understanding of the human body.

Having a better understanding of the human form, I started to think of ideas for my 30 images out. I concluded on creating 30 drawings and have each one act as frames of an animation when played together. I was able to get my own primary resource of this and recorded my friend performing a backwards crab. I then broke the film down into photoshop so I could use each frame of the footage as a primary resource. I wanted to make each picture to look visually different to help them stand out because of the use of the same model on each page. The video below showcases my original video that I will be using as reference.
I used a variety of artists as inspiration for my drawings, such as: Audrey Beardsley, Kathe Kollwitz, Monet, Lucy Morning, Wayne Nichols, etc. By having a wide range of artists as inspiration, it meant I could experiment with different materials and styles, this was my favourite part of this project as it showed my how one person can look drastically different within art. The gallery below showcases all of my 30 art pieces.
Overall, I am happy with how my project turned out, each picture looks unique and is able to stand on their own because of their different styles and medias. If I could go back and change anything about this project, I would go back and have filmed the footage on a camera and not my phone to make the footage clearer.
